It's week 2 of the One Room Challenge and I have to be honest, I'm ready to get to the fun stuff! Don't forget to follow along with the rest of the ORC participants at www.oneroomchallenge.com/orc-blog. This week was all about clearing out the room, making repairs, and prepping for the good part. Since I'm not letting mom see the room until it's finished, I had to find a good hiding spot for everything I removed!

My mom must really like using wall anchors to hang things, I removed a total of 18 from this tiny space! Those pesky anchors leave nasty holes, which take time to repair if you want a smooth finish. If they aren't the screw kind, I just tap them into the wall using a setting tool (like the one below) and let them fall behind the drywall. It makes a smaller hole to repair than when you try to pull them out...I've learned from experience trying to yank those suckers out! Once I have them out I use a putty knife and spackle to fill in the hole. Let it dry, sand, and putty one more time. Once that's dry sand again and you're ready to paint.

I also had to fix some loose drywall tape over the shower (see below). I need to practice doing this because we have a ton of loose drywall tape at our house. I cut out the old, loose tape with a utility knife, filled in the gap with spackle, added mesh tape over the top, and spackled and sanded until smooth. I also had to fix some bubbling of the drywall paper on the area over the shower. Years of my sister and I taking 30 minute showers when we were young probably had something to do with it :) I hope I did it right, my dad will be checking my handy work I'm sure. I found out he snooped around after I left to figure out what all that loud banging was (tapping in the anchors). Ha!

I also fixed the vanity door. I'll be keeping the vanity but replacing the top, hardware, and faucets. This door has been drooping for years and all it needed was some tightened screws! See below for the easy fix.

Lastly, I had to share a few gems that I found under the cabinets. I had to clear everything out so I could unhook the faucets and cracked up when I saw these items. I kid you not, these date back to the late 90s!! I'm pretty sure no one should use these on their skin anymore. LOL. The OG Bath and Body Works Cucumber Melon, and RIP to Victoria's Secret Love Spell. It was my favorite scent and I nearly cried when they stopped making it!

Now that everything is prepped and ready to go, it's time to start seeing things transform. I can't wait to get the paint on the wall. Paint is one of my favorite parts of any project! I also get to learn how to do some fun electrical work. I started removing fixtures today to find the holes are completely off-center. That won't work with the new fixtures so the wiring will have to be moved. Oh man...this should be fun!
