It's week one of the Fall 2021 One Room Challenge and I'm so excited to get this project started! You can follow along at www.oneroomchallenge.com/orc-blog and find a ton of inspiration from the other awesome participants.
This project is a special one. We found out in May that my mama was diagnosed with stage four metastatic breast cancer. The news was devastating. I am so blessed to have such a close family and this shook us to the core. She has had such a positive attitude through all the testing, treatment, and sickness, and my dad has been the best caregiver. Their love for one another has always been strong (43 years of marriage!) but they have drawn even closer through all of this. God is good...all the time! Even when, well especially when, times are hard. We are so thankful to have faith and hope in such an amazing God!
So why this project and what does it have to do with my mama? Well, it's actually my mom and dad's guest bathroom. The exact bathroom that my sister and I got ready in our entire childhood. My sink was on the left and hers on the right. That bathroom has seen a lot of sibling fights and a lot of aqua net, LOL. I know I'm not getting any younger (funny seeing I'll never be a day over 29!) and neither is this bathroom. Mom had some new flooring put in a few years ago, but that's about it. The rest of it is nearly 30 years old!
She told my sister and I she wanted us to update this bathroom and her master...that one is for another day :) She actually told us this a few months before finding out she had cancer. This summer has been quite a whirlwind with work, kid's sports, house stuff, trips to the lake, and picking up some extra activities to help mom and dad, that we are just now getting time to work on her bathroom. The best part? We get to see mom and dad even more while we're working on the space!
Below is the mood board I created. I'm definitely not a graphic designer, but hopefully this sets the mood...at least that's what these boards are supposed to do. Ha!

I took a few before pics that you can see below. Our plan is to tackle the project in our spare time, which will mean week nights after work and weekends when the kid's don't have games or practices. I've been working a lot of late nights with my "9-5" so I'm praying things lighten up a bit so that I can carve out the time. Nothing like a life-changing diagnosis to change one's perspective on what's important! There will be lots of times that the kids will have to come with us to help with the project and/or help out mom and dad with things they need done around the house. Progress over perfect is the goal!

Come back next week to see how things are moving along!
